Notes, Commentary, Restoration:
This Rodded Eagle signal represents a transitional time in signal development. While it appears quite similar to the modern, adjustable face eagle signals it is the last of an earlier era. This style still consisted of top-and-bottomless body sections, held together by rods running the length of the body to top and bottom plates.
The Eagle, despite coming from northern Indiana, appears to have led a pampered life. The lenses and glass reflectors are still in quite clear condition with no serious scuffing or spotting. The
paint, despite being several coats thick and applied by brush, exhibits no major chipping, peeling, runs, or drips. Apart from one missing visor screw of the red aspect, the only signs to belie this beauty's true age lie in the blackened rain stains running down the body. This signal being in such fine shape and having a charming weathered effect has not undergone any restoration work and will be displayed as is.
