Signal
Gas Printers Block
MFR:
Unknown printer for Signal Gas Company
Notes,
Commentary:
This is a reverse-image metal plate (die) mounted on a Hardwood
block. These would have been loaded into a printing press, much like a
modern age rubber stamp, and inked to print the pattern onto some item, notepad
letterhead, matchbook covers, etc. It's age is unknown, from the quality of the block and the
history of the brand it could be from as late as 1967, though most likely older
such as from the 30's-50's before they updated their logo/appearance.
There is some markings on the block, a triangle with numbers, but it is
unreadable, as well as the paper backing. What makes this a beauty, though, is
the signal used by Signal. Los Angeles' famous Acme brand
"semaphore" style signal.
